Jeep Safari in Tadoba National Park

The Jeep Safari is the best thing that one can experience in Tadoba National Park. The open Jeep ride, also known as tiger safari is usually of few hours in the dense reserve, where the chances of spotting a tiger and other wild animals are relatively high. The tourists can explore the Tadoba Park on open jeeps and view the habitat of wild animals like the tiger, leopard, sloth bear, wild dogs, panther, barking deer, wolf, and many more.

The Jeep Safari timings are fixed by the Tadoba Administration in the morning and evening, where the jeeps are allowed for excursion only after the registration with the administration. The entry of the Jeep has to be registered at the park gate itself followed by a prescribed charge that has to be paid before making the entry. The park authority has restricted the total number of jeeps to 36 for the morning and evening drives respectively. A park guide has to accompany the jeep for security purpose. Also, the tourists can enter the park by presenting their personal information and identification papers at the gate and the foreigners by showing their passport in original.

The tourists are not allowed to get down the jeep throughout the safari excursion as this might risk their life. In addition, they need to follow set of rules and regulations at the time of tiger safari, which the park guide can explain as he/she is completely aware of that.

To book Jeep Safari in advance, one can visit the DFO Office at Chandrapur District near the tiger reserve and try for spot booking at the Navegoan Gate as no online booking facility is available at the moment. The jeeps can be hired from the local taxi stands who also provide trained drivers.

The timings of the Jeep Safari for the winter timing (Morning: 6 to 10 AM & Afternoon: 2 to 6 PM) and summer timings (Morning: 5 to 9 AM & Afternoon: 3 to 6:30 PM) approximately


SHIVAJI : Considered one of the huge tigers in the country and named after the great Maratha warrior Shivaji. This male was first sighted in January 2006 and is about 14 years old. His territory lies in the Kolsa region of Southern Tadoba and is considered as the dominant male of the region.

WAGDOH : Wagdoh male is a massive tiger also called as Scar-face due to the scars it obtained during the wrestling with a male gaur. During this fight he also lost a right eye. Though very ferocious this male is known to be very caring and has nurtured its own litter of cubs after the death of his mate. It was first sighted in July 2002 is about 14 years old. His areas lies in Mohurli range from Waghdoh area, Telia Lake up to tank 2.

MAYA : The most commonly seen and most famous tigress is extremely beautiful and vivacious tigress of Tadoba. First sighted in 2010 this beauty is 6 years old and has started her own family and given birth to 3 cubs in 2016.

TELIA SISTERS : The four females of telia are world renowned.These sisters at one time lived together hunting in ambush. Sonan, Lara, Tara and Geeta. Their mother Madhuri is famous tigress of Telia Lake. All the 4 telia sisters have now formed their own territories and mated to give births to their own litter of cubs.

There are six gates through which one can visit/take a safari in TATR.

Gypsy and Jeep Safaris are always available in Tadoba National Park that help in exploring the wildlife of the forest.

Safari Timings usually depend on sunrise and sunset.

Morning Jeep: 6.00 A.M to 11.00 A.M. (entry allowed until 8.00 a.m.)

Afternoon Jeep: 2.00 P.M. until 6.00 P.M (entry allowed until 4.30 p.m.)

The entry has to be registered on the gate and a prescribed charge has to be paid. There is a limit set for the numbers of jeeps that can enter the park hence the gate entry booking has to be made in advance. A park guide has to accompany the jeep as a regulation and a fee paid for this service. The gypsy charges are different and has to be paid separately.

The tourists are not allowed to get down from the vehicle throughout the safari. A set of rules and regulation exists for tiger safari and the park guide is aware of that. One has to follow his instruction in order to abide with the regulations.

For the gate entry one needs to produce identification documents of the tourists like passport/driving license/ pan card etc. For the foreigners the passport in original has to be shown.

March to May is the best time to see tiger as summer temperatures are extremely high especially in the month of May. The monsoon begins from June to September and Vegetation and insect life come alive with the arrival of monsoon in mid June. The post monsoon starts from October to November, which is also the best time to visit Tadoba Wildlife Sanctuary as you will feel refreshing viewing the lush green jungle sprawled with flowers. Winter season begins from December to February, though temperature remains quite warm during these months due to the tropical climate.

By Air -Nagpur (140 Km) is the nearest airport from where it takes 3 hour taxi rides to reach the park.

By Rail- Chandrapur (49 kms) and Nagpur (151kms) are nearest railheads.

By RoadNearest bus stop is Chandrapur and Chimur (32 km), but bus or cabs are also available from Chandrapur to Mohrali Village.

Weather in Tadoba

Winters stretch from November to February and day temperatures is between 25°-30°C and the park is looks green. Summers are too hot in Tadoba as the temperature increases to 47°C; even so it is the ideal time to sight mammals near water lakes as the vegetation is also rare, increasing visibility. The monsoon breaks in June with heavy rainfall of approx.1275 mm. and humidity is around 66%.
